For our fabric mouse pads, we recommend a minimum font size of 12pts to account for encroachment. Additionally, we suggest using a sans serif font like Arial rather than a serif font like Times New Roman for better readability and a cleaner appearance.
A very brief explanation, encroachment occurs when you have a light color next to a very dark color, think white text on a black background. We do not print white ink so any elements that are white it is the fabric of the pad showing through. The imprint method we use is dye sublimation where ink is heated until the dye turns to a gas and permanently bonds to the polymer, in this case polyester. During that process some of the dye encroaches slightly on places with no dye, so the black encroaches on the white fabric for about a pixel width.
* If you are a designer we have a couple other notations, we recommend a 1pt stroke on all knock out elements with fine lines. If you do have a significant amount of fine lines and texts on your image that are white on black we recommend at least a 3 pt stroke of 100% black/flat black. The rich process black contains significantly more ink than the flat black and therefore encroaches more than the flat black so the flat black acts as a buffer for the knock out text.
